What is Namprik?

Namprik is a traditional Thai chili paste composed of the words "nam" (liquid) and "prik" (chili). This paste is known for its intense, spicy flavor and is widely used in Thai cuisine.

Use of Namprik

Namprik can be used in a variety of ways. It's a great seasoning for soups, salads, meat dishes, and stir-fries such as fried rice or noodles. You can also use it as a dip for vegetables, meat, and seafood, or as a spread on toast or bread rolls.
A small spoon is enough to give your dishes an authentic Thai touch.

Health benefits

Namprik contains many vitamins and minerals, including vitamin C, iron, and calcium. Capsaicin, a natural component of chilies, acts as a painkiller and can reduce inflammation.

Origin and history

The history of namprik dates back to the Ayutthaya Kingdom, when people began using fermentation processes to extend the shelf life of food. Namprik was originally a method for preserving spices, which were then used as seasonings for soups and other dishes.

Variants of Namprik

There are many different varieties of Namprik, which vary greatly in consistency and taste depending on the region.
The most popular and available in most regions are Nam Prik Kapi, Nam Prik Ong, and Nam Prik Pao. Nam Prik Kapi is made from fermented shrimp paste and has a spicy flavor, while Nam Prik Ong is based on tomatoes and pork and delights with its sweet and spicy notes. Nam Prik Pao is made from roasted chilies, garlic, shallots, and tamarind and has a smoky flavor.
